SOGOC: Experts Seek Improved Gynaecological / Obstetric Care

The need to strengthen gynaecological and obstetric care through scientific research, medical innovation and professional collaboration was the core of discussions during the opening of the 33rd Congress of the Society of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians of Cameroon (SOGOC) which opened in Douala on October 14.
The congre that will run from the 14-16 of October brought together medical specialists, researchers, representatives of professional associations and international experts to examine current challenges in the specialty and identify solutions adapted to the realities of Cameroon and Africa.
In his opening remarks , the President of the Scientific Committee Professor Foumane Pascal underscored the importance of moving beyond the management of medical complications towards their prediction, prevention and early detection. He explained that the scientific programme was designed to promote the exchange of experiences, examine emerging technologies and develop practical recommendations for everyday medical practice. He stressed that medical innovations should not simply be imported but assessed, adapted and, where possible, developed locally to meet patients’ needs and the constraints of available resources.
On his part, the president of the organising committee, Professor Mboudou Emile commended the scientific partners and laboratories whose support contributed to the organisation of the congress. He highlighted the importance of regional and international cooperation in addressing reproductive health challenges and strengthening the capacities of healthcare personnel. He further emphasised the need to improve maternal healthcare and protect the health of women and children, noting that investment in professional training and scientific exchanges contributes directly to better patient care.

The Governor of the Littoral Region, Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua, acknowledged the contribution of SOGOC to the development of gynaecology and obstetrics in Cameroon. He mentioned the persistent maternal health concerns, including obstetric haemorrhage, adolescent sexual and reproductive health challenges and the need to improve access to modern medical procedures. He also commended the association’s capacity building initiatives, which equip health professionals with practical skills to save lives. The Governor expressed hope that the deliberations would produce concrete recommendations capable of improving the accessibility, quality and effectiveness of healthcare services.
The congress is expected to strengthen professional cooperation and scientific exchange while encouraging solutions adapted to local realities.
