Residents of Mbongo community now have access to clean, reliable drinking water following the official handover of a modern solar-powered borehole by agro-industrial company Socapalm. The handover took place during a brief ceremony on September 18, 2026. The water project was realized through Socapalm’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program following priorities set during a local bipartite dialogue between the company and community representatives. “It is a dream come true for the people of Mbongo,” said a representative from the Socapalm Mbongo CSR committee. “The community requested a dedicated water supply project, and Socapalm delivered. This facility will supply not just a single access point, but benefit the entire village, including women and children.” Designed to overcome local power instability, the borehole operates on an autonomous photovoltaic system. “This project is particularly unique as the first of its kind in the locality,” the CSR representative added. “Because power outages are frequent here, we built a system powered by solar panels. Whether the power goes out or not, the village will always have running water. We also installed two 5,000-liter storage tanks providing a total capacity of 10,000 liters ensuring Mbongo is protected against both power and water shortages.”
For Chief Mbel Pierre of Mbongo, the completion of the project marks the end of long, exhausting treks for water. “I am very happy with this borehole,” Chief Mbel stated. “We have been requesting a sustainable water source for a long time, and today they delivered it. We must continue working hand-in-hand with Socapalm.”
Community member and local liaison Madame Same Kelle highlighted the positive impact the facility will have on local households, particularly for women.”Women here faced significant difficulties sourcing water,” Mrs.Kelle said. “Socapalm promised us clean water in 2025, and today that promise is fulfilled. It is now up to the women of the village to take good care of this project and maintain the equipment so it remains clean and functional. We are truly thankful.” The initiative reflects Socapalm’s ongoing commitment to improving living standards across its host communities through investments in basic infrastructure, health, education, and utilities.
