Over 3,000 Meals to Vulnerable Families

Inhabitants from six neighbourhoods in Douala including Kuwait, Mabanda, Bansoa, Ndogpassi, Makepe – missoke and Bepanda will on Friday August 21 benefit from a humanitarian gesture aimed at providing meals for the underprivileged within the neighbourhoods. The revelation was in Douala during a press conference organised by Season media on August 17. The cooking initiative born from the television programme “Coup de Food” is taking on a stronger social dimension with the first edition of “Marmites du coeur” to feed the underprivileged. The revelation was made during a press conference organised by season media on August 17.

According to the Chief executive officer of Season media Eva Mballa, they plan to prepare and distribute 3,000 meals to beneficiaries across six neighbourhoods in Douala.

She said the project is being implemented with the support of partners, including Broli, the main partner of Coup de Food, as well as other companies and organisations. She added that the initiative provides an opportunity for businesses to translate their corporate social responsibility commitments into concrete action. Beyond providing food, she said the initiative is intended to draw attention to people whose difficult living conditions often go unnoticed.

“We are bringing meals and  small packages of foodstuffs to people in need. It does not fundamentally change their lives, but it is modest  intended to bring hope, dignity and a smile to beneficiaries” she mentioned.

On his part  the project Director, Frank Ndam, said preparations ahead of the event has intensified. He said on D- Day which is Friday August 21, activities will begin at 6 a.m. at the esplanade of Grand Mall, which will serve as the project’s central base. He said food preparation is expected to be completed around midday  after which the 3,000 meals will be packaged and loaded onto six caravans. The caravans will then head to  the six neighbourhoods, where local focal points, traditional leaders, young people and women will facilitate the distribution. He said beneficiary families have been identified ahead of the event in collaboration with local chiefs and community members. This approach, according to the project director is intended to ensure that assistance reaches families who genuinely need it.

The neighbourhood activities are expected to run from around 1:30 pm to 5: 30 pm after which the caravans will return to Grand Mall for closing.

During the press conference, the season media disclosed that they look forward to making “ Marmites du coeur a yearly event.
