More than 100 children from three orphanages in Douala have received school supplies and food items through a humanitarian initiative organised by Coeur D’ira, an association dedicated to supporting vulnerable and underprivileged members of society.The donations were presented during a charity gala held on July 25, 2026, bringing together partners, corporate sponsors and well-wishers who contributed essential items to prepare the children for the upcoming school year.Speaking during the event, Madam Irene Elimbe Moukoudi Mingole, President of Coeur D’ira, said the initiative was designed to put smiles on the faces of children who often lack basic necessities.She explained that beneficiaries from OCEM, Marinata and CIFIRM orphanages received school kits alongside food supplies. According to her, the association mobilised support from companies and individual donors who helped finance school expenses and provide essential food items such as rice, milk, flour and cooking oil.”Our objective is to ensure that these children begin the new school year with hope and confidence while also meeting some of their basic nutritional needs,” she noted, adding that the association will continue seeking partnerships to expand its outreach.
Among the event’s corporate partners was Olam Agri, whose Marketing Officer, Madam Mbinkar Tomla Merabel, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities. She said the donation of quality rice was intended to contribute to the children’s healthy growth and overall development.The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the gesture. Noe X, a 13-year-old resident of the Marinata Orphanage, said the school materials would make it easier for her to resume classes when schools reopen.”I am very grateful to everyone who donated these items. They will help me study better, and I promise to work hard and succeed in all my examinations,” she said.The initiative reflects growing collaboration between civil society organisations, businesses and individuals to improve the welfare of vulnerable children in Cameroon. As the new academic year approaches, the organisers hope their gesture will inspire more people and institutions to extend a helping hand to those most in need.
