The second edition of the Muntu Challenge Festival has been unveiled with a renewed vision that organizers say will transform it from a simple talent competition into a platform for artistic training, mentorship and professional integration.Speaking during a press conference at the New-Bell Youth and Culture Center in Douala II, on July 17 Project Coordinator and founder Princess Essaka Ekwalla Kate presented the festival’s ambitious roadmap for the 2026 edition, describing it as a springboard for emerging Cameroonian artists.Derived from the Bantu word Muntu, meaning “Man,” the festival places humanity, creativity and cultural identity at the heart of its mission. According to the organizers, the initiative was created to promote talent without discrimination while giving visibility to gifted individuals who often lack opportunities.
This year’s competition will feature four disciplines: acting, dance, singing and cuisine. Cuisine returns to the festival after being recognized as a powerful expression of Cameroon’s cultural heritage and creativity.Unlike its inaugural edition, the 2026 challenge will emphasize training before competition. Organizers said contestants will undergo workshops, masterclasses and mentorship sessions before they are evaluated by a professional jury comprising experts from each discipline.Registration officially opens on July 21, 2026, with auditions beginning in Douala later in July before moving to Yaoundé from August 3 to 6. Monthly talent scouting sessions will continue through October.One of the festival’s major innovations is the Muntu Creative Residency, scheduled for November 9 to 29, during which selected participants will live and work together, receive intensive coaching and collaborate with industry professionals to prepare projects for the semi-finals and grand finale.The competition will conclude with the semi-finals in Yaoundé and the grand finale on December 4, 2026, in Douala. Winners will receive 150,000 FCFA, 100,000 FCFA and 50,000 FCFA for first, second and third place respectively.Beyond the cash prizes, organizers say the festival’s greatest reward is creating lasting career opportunities by connecting young artists with professionals and expanding their visibility within Cameroon’s creative industry.With its expanded format, the Muntu Challenge Festival is a major cultural event aimed at discovering, nurturing and promoting the next generation of Cameroonian artistic talent.
