The Minister of Public Health, Dr. Manaouda Malachie has officially launched the second round of the national polio vaccination campaign on July 9, 2026.
Held at the La Nouvelle Destinée orphanage in the Bangue health district, the launch also marked the inauguration of the first Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition Action Week (SASNIM). Running from July 9 to 12, 2026, this synchronized campaign is being deployed across the Littoral region and other high-priority zones nationwide.
By launching this initiative from La Nouvelle Destinée, it emphasised the protection of Cameroon’s human capital begins with its most vulnerable. The choice underscores a republican commitment to equity, reinforcing that every child, regardless of social status or family background, possesses an inalienable right to protection against vaccine-preventable diseases.
Moving away from isolated interventions, the Ministry of Public Health has seamlessly coupled the polio response with SASNIM to maximise impact.
Targeting children aged 0 to 59 months in high-risk epidemiological zones, healthcare teams are deploying a comprehensive package of essential services directly to communities:
Critical polio vaccine boosters. Screening and essential micronutrient supplementation. Maternal health education and preventative care resources.
Beyond medical metrics, the event highlighted a profound social dimension. Moved by the living conditions of the children in care, Minister Manaouda Malachie presented a financial contribution to fund the construction of a new solidarity-based nursery within the orphanage.
The gesture serves as a catalyst, calling upon civil society and the private sector to deepen their commitment to vulnerable youth. “Collective support is the essential condition for our vaccination teams to operate effectively. Dr. Malachie urged parents, media professionals, and community leaders to act as guardians of reliable information. For the campaign to succeed, the Minister emphasized that local communities must actively welcome healthcare workers and collaborate for the success of the campaign.
