Chantal BIYA International Mt.Bike Race: Stakeholders Unveil Major Project in Douala

The town of Douala, the economic capital of Cameroon, hosted a major press conference on May 26, 2026, to officially launch the 3rd edition of the Chantal BIYA International Mountain Bike Race. Spearheaded by vision bearer Minister Joseph LÊ, this high-profile competition is scheduled for August 6–7, 2026, in Bagofit (East Region), under the High Patronage of the First Lady of Cameroon, Mrs. Chantal BIYA.This year, the event transcends sport. It returns as a holistic initiative seamlessly merging high-level athletic competition, international business, and humanitarian solidarity. The structural framework of this edition is heavily reinforced by the concurrent Bagofit International Business Week, which features a grand Trade Fair and the highly anticipated East Region Investment Forum. This dual approach aims to provide a prime showcase for the region’s vast economic, cultural, and tourism assets. The technical production is overseen by the Cameroonian Cycling Federation (FECACYCLING), led by Mr. Honoré YOSSI, ensuring the competition meets stringent international standards. Delegations of professional cyclists from across Africa and Europe are set to attend, injecting an unprecedented international dimension into the race.Continuing a tradition of sporting excellence, the tracks are designed to test endurance across diverse terrains, including laterite roads, steep hills, and dense forested areas. This provides local Cameroonian cyclists with an invaluable opportunity to compete against elite international standards.Furthermore,a major innovation for 2026 is the integration of the East Region Investment Forum, organized in partnership with GAVE S.A. This forum serves as a strategic meeting point for global investors looking to explore the multi-sectoral potential of Eastern Cameroon. “This event is a symbol of hope and collective commitment to the development of our region,” stated Mr. Joseph Lê, the event’s promoter. “It represents a true springboard not only for athletes, but also for economic development and regional integration.”The East Region is exceptionally rich in natural resources, creating a fertile ground for sustainable growth. Key sectors spotlighted for development include:Mining & Extractive Industries, Agriculture & Agribusiness, Sustainable Forestry, Ecotourism (establishing Bertoua as a pivotal economic hub within the Central African sub-region). Deeply rooted in the values of solidarity championed by the First Lady, Mrs. Chantal Biya, the event doubles as a humanitarian vehicle. The 2026 edition will roll out localized health campaigns, medical outreach, and targeted donations to support vulnerable populations and local development projects in the East Region.

To guarantee the success of this ambitious project, the organizers are calling on private sector stakeholders. The event offers a unique corporate social responsibility (CSR) platform for sponsors, providing high visibility at the trade fair alongside significant branding returns. The event will feature an array of parallel activities designed to enrich the experience for families and tourists alike:Coinciding with the race to provide a vibrant, celebratory atmosphere.Food trucks and local exhibitors highlighting authentic Cameroonian cuisine and heritage. Interactive awareness sessions focusing on health, environmental conservation, and adventure tourism. In a significant step forward for Cameroonian sport, the organizers have committed to total accessibility. The 2026 race will feature adapted courses and specialized support services, ensuring that athletes and spectators with disabilities can fully participate in the festivities. Moreover, beyond the two days of intense competition, the 3rd Chantal Biya International Mountain Bike Race aims to leave a permanent footprint. Expected long-term benefits include the development of regional sports infrastructure, local job creation, and enhanced logistical capacity for future large-scale events. As August approaches, the mobilization of authorities, businesses, athletes, and citizens will be key to making this edition a resounding success. The road to Bagofit promises a powerful blend of emotion, entrepreneurship, and shared progress.
