In recognition of his lifelong dedication to social justice and humanitarian action, Alphonse Ayissi Abena, the Executive President of the Cameroonian Consumers Foundation (FOCACO), was presented with a prestigious international award on Monday, May 18, 2026.The ceremony was attended by a distinguished delegation, including:Ferdinand Ndem Vice-President of FOCACO. Alex Koko à Dang, National President of the National Union of Independent Journalists of Cameroon (SYNAJIC)Prominent media personalities, civil society leaders, and the recipient’s family, colleagues, and friends.Mr. Ayissi Abena was presented with the Gold Humanitarian Medal and the Grass 2 Grace International Award. Sponsored by the United Nations and presented by CISRI-Cameroon, the honors were delivered by Chief Thomas Ayuk Fotang, a traditional leader and the President and Humanitarian Ambassador of Grace To Grace (G2G).During his keynote address, Chief Fotang highlighted Ayissi Abena’s decades-long commitment to:Defending consumer rights across Cameroon and abroad.Organizing vital national blood donation campaigns.

Providing consistent material and financial support to orphans.Protecting vulnerable populations from systemic exploitation.The event was marked by emotional tributes from colleagues and global peers. Ferdinand Ndem, Vice-President of FOCACO, delivered a powerful portrait of the laureate, describing him as a “fearless media personality, a fierce consumer advocate, and a voice for ordinary citizens.””This distinction is not simply a reward; it is the recognition of truth on the ground,” Ndem stated. “Alphonse Ayissi Abena’s courage in the face of systemic injustices and his pure humanism bring honor to African civil society. Today, FOCACO celebrates a leader whose ongoing work concretely transforms lives.”Further testimonials poured in, including praises from a close friend who traveled from the United States and a senior official from the Land Registry, both of whom lauded Ayissi Abena as a “dignified and honest man” whose impact stretches far beyond Cameroon’s border.
