Tombel : SADEF Empowers 60 Participants With Practical Livelihood Skills

The Safe and Development Foundation ,SADEF has reinforced its commitment to grassroots empowerment with the successful organisation of a practical skills training programme in Mile 20 Peng, Tombel Subdivision in the South West RegionThe day-long initiative, which took place on Saturday, April 18th 2026 at the Presbyterian Church in Mile 20 Peng, brought together some 60 participants, including youths and parents drawn from the local community. The training, focused on equipping beneficiaries with hands-on skills aimed at fostering self-reliance and income generation.The project , was jointly implemented by SADEF Cameroon and SADEF Canada . Goodwill messages from key officials of the organisation came in handy as the National Vice President of SADEF Cameroon, Esambe Moses; Zonal Coordinator, Okane Beltus; and a representative of SADEF Canada, Sakang Elvis, all underscored the importance of practical skill acquisition as a pathway to economic empowerment and sustainable community development.Participants were subsequently introduced to facilitators, Mme Sharon and Mme Asaah Chanceline, who guided them through a structured training programme covering four key production areas: liquid soap, bleach, detergent commonly called ‘Omo’ and perfume.The sessions were conducted in a progressive and highly interactive format, enabling participants to engage directly in the production processes. Organisers noted that the hands-on approach ensured that participants not only observed but also acquired practical competencies that can be immediately applied in real-life settings.At the end of the training, feedback from beneficiaries have been overwhelmingly positive.

Many , have expressed gratitude to SADEF, describing the initiative as timely and impactful. Some indicated their readiness to venture into small-scale production to generate income and support their households.One beneficiary, Nkweleme Jane, hailed the initiative as a rare opportunity, pledging to immediately put the knowledge gained into practice. Another participant commended the organisation for bringing expert trainers and free training to the community, noting that such initiatives contribute significantly to improving livelihoods.The programme it should be noted forms part of SADEF’s broader objective to empower women, youth and its members with entrepreneurial skills, particularly in detergent production and related fields. Beyond individual empowerment, the initiative is also designed to stimulate small business creation and promote financial independence among participants.Organisers have encouraged participants to replicate the training in their respective communities, thereby extending the impact of the programme and strengthening community-based development efforts.The SADEF Canada President, Canadian-based pedagogue Sumbong Lesly Ngolle has sent special appreciation was extended to SADEF members who travelled from Douala, Buea, Yaounde and surrounding villages to support the initiative, as well as to volunteer trainers, including a facilitator from Buea who offered free instruction on perfume production.Founded on May 12, 2020, SADEF Cameroon, in partnership with SADEF Canada established on February 12, 2026, SADEF has continued to support vulnerable communities through skills training, educational support and outreach programmes.
