Saturday, April 25, 2026, the Yaounde-based non-profit Havre de Paix Association extended a lifeline to vulnerable communities in the Douala IV subdivision. In a mission of solidarity, the organization donated essential food items and toiletries to over 100 families identified as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the Northwest and Southwest regions. The atmosphere in the Mambanda neighborhood was one of profound gratitude, with beneficiaries greeting the volunteers with songs of praise. Bridging the Gap of PrecariousnessIn a socio-economic climate where basic necessities remain out of reach for many, Havre de Paix launched the “A Day to Give” initiative. The event focused on providing concrete humanitarian support, distributing kits containing rice, vegetable oil, spaghetti, salt, and hygiene products.Furthermore, beyond material aid, the day emphasized community and joy. Special gift packages containing candy and biscuits were distributed to the children present, ensuring that the event fostered a sense of compassion and “living together.”The association, guided by its slogan “Acting for Youth,” is led by National President Kamgang Idriss. For Idriss, choosing Douala IV for this edition was a homecoming. “You must always start where you first saw the light,” Idriss stated. “I grew up here. We chose Douala IV because we want to help our brothers and sisters climb the slope together. Our goal is to empower these young people so they can eventually reach out and support others in different cities across the nation.”Atemafack Judith, representing the Youth and Animation Center in Douala IV, lauded the timing of the donation, noting its impact on education. “A hungry man is an angry man,” Judith remarked. “If a child lacks food, they cannot concentrate on school. With exams approaching, these items will help students stay focused. We pray that this spirit of giving continues, as many IDPs here are in dire need of support.”Elise Tcheunkam, journalist and Regional President of the association, highlighted the collaborative effort that made the day possible.

She extended heartfelt thanks to partners such as Transit Time, Tradex and the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which provided the venue for the event. “We initially listed 30 children, but we couldn’t bear to see any child leave empty-handed,” Tcheunkam explained. “We ensured every child present received a package. This is just the first step in our mission to support the coastal region through training, leadership, and the fight against juvenile delinquency.”Meanwhile, beneficiaries like Ndoumbe Jean expressed their hope for the future of the association. “I am happy to witness the launch of this peacekeeping effort here,” he said. “They have put us back on the rails, and we pray they continue this philanthropic action throughout Cameroon and beyond.”Headquartered in Yaounde and officially recognized by administrative declaration No. 0000013/RDA/J06/SAAJP/BAPP, Havre de Paix Association is committed to promoting social well-being and mentoring vulnerable populations. Through initiatives like “A Day to Give,” the organization continues to champion socio-professional integration and the promotion of leadership values among Cameroonian youth.
