The new Turkish Ambassador to Cameroon, His Excellency Volkan Öskiper, was in Douala from February 6 to 7 to familiarize himself with the administration and to meet with the Turkish community.  On the first day of his visit, His Excellency Volkan Öskiper inaugurated the Turkish-Cameroon Friendship Park, which will serve as a leisure center for the people of Douala.

 This significant project will transform the economic capital of Cameroon. Upon completion, the Friendship Park is expected to be the largest of its kind in Douala. It is expected to occupy three hectares of land. Ambassador Volkan Oskiper, expressed his pleasure with the cooperation between the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and the Douala City Council. He emphasized the potential of the project to meet the social needs of the city’s residents. The Mayor of the City of Douala, Dr. Roger Mbassa Ndine, welcomed the project as a gift from a valued development partner. He noted its importance in meeting the growing demand for social and recreational facilities in Douala. This momentous project is poised to transform the economic capital of Cameroon. When completed, the Friendship Park is expected to be the largest of its kind in Douala. Ambassador Volkan Oskiper, expressed his pleasure with the cooperation between the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and the Douala City Council. He emphasized the project’s potential to address the social needs of the city’s residents

 Prior to the inauguration, the diplomat paid a courtesy call on the Governor of the Littoral, Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboa, and the President of the Regional Council, Polycarpe Banglog.  His Excellency Volkan Öskiper also exchanged views with officials of the Chamber of Commerce led by its First Vice President, Nfon Ekoko Mukete. His Excellency Volkan Öskiper also met with the Turkish business community in Douala, where he received first-hand information on their activities and challenges. On the second day, the Ambassador and his team visited some investments carried out in cooperation with the Turkish such as the Douala Japoma Stadium.

At the end of the visit, the Ambassador appreciated the relations between the two countries. He said the visit was also a great moment for him to get a feel of Turkish investments in Cameroon and to meet with entrepreneurs from both countries to look for more ways to promote the relationship.
