Peace Restores in Kienke After A Criminal Gang Dismantled via SOCAPALM Partnership

A wave of relief has swept through the villages surrounding the Kienke plantations following the successful dismantling of a violent criminal gang. The breakthrough is being hailed as a triumph of coordinated security strategy involving Socapalm, local administrative authorities, and traditional village leadership.The usually tranquility in the villages of Lendi Aviation, Pungu, Mvulu, Mabenanga, Dombè, and Bessian were recently gripped by fear following a series of brutal crimes. The community was left reeling after the discovery of two deceased students from Kribi High School, followed shortly by the gruesome murder of Wamba Simplice, a resident of Mvoumbele. On March 1st, Mr. Simplice was found with his throat slit while returning home; his motorcycle had been stolen. The meeting brought together high-ranking administrative officials from Douala and fifteen local traditional chiefs to address the “root causes of fear.”During the session, village notables, including Sabonguie Nicolas of Pungu, highlighted vulnerabilities in subcontractor recruitment processes that allowed unidentified individuals to settle in the area. In response, Police Divisional Commissioner Salifou unveiled a revamped strategy for village vigilance committees and committed to intensified patrols.Moreover,the strategy bore fruit in Bipaga (Lokoundje subdivision) when law enforcement intercepted a suspicious motorcyclist. Officers identified the vehicle as belonging to the late Wamba Simplice. Under interrogation, and supported by intelligence gathered from local vigilance committees, the suspect provided information that led to the arrest of the entire gang. “We have transformed individual fear into collective vigilance,” stated one participant at the security meeting.Under the authority of the SDO of the Ocean Division the “Forces Opérationnelles” (FMO) have significantly increased day and night raids to ensure the remnants of the criminal network are neutralized. While the primary suspects are now in custody awaiting trial, security measures remain heightened to protect the lives and livelihoods of the Kienke residents.
