There was a palpable sense of relief and joy in the Bonabome neighborhood of the Douala IV subdivision on March 14, as internally displaced persons (IDPs) received much-needed aid. The distribution was part of a joint humanitarian venture between the France-based association Sante Pour Tous and the local organization Bringing Hearts Together. The relief kits comprising bags of rice, vegetable oil, sugar, soap, toiletries, and clothing target families who fled the ongoing socio-political crisis in Cameroon’s Northwest and Southwest regions.According to Regina Liengu Etaka Esong CEO of Bringing Hearts Together, the donation is part of a five-year relationship with this specific displaced community.”We have been working with these families for over five years now,” Mrs Esong explained. “Many arrived with absolutely nothing not even a pin. They escaped gunshots and killings, leaving behind destroyed homes to find themselves in a new land where they had to start from scratch.”While some have begun to rebuild their lives through income generating activities supported by the associations, the influx of new arrivals remains steady as the decade-long crisis continues to displace more families.

The intervention goes beyond physical supplies. The partnership provides critical psychosocial support to help survivors process the horrors they witnessed.”The stories are devastating,” Mrs Esong shared. “We have mothers who had to leave children behind, and others who watched their children be shot as they ran. One woman we support, a survivor of sexual violence, originally intended to abort her pregnancy out of despair. Today, with our encouragement, she is raising her children and reclaiming her life.”Moreover, the mission exceeded its initial goals, reaching more than the 30 families originally targeted thanks to an outpouring of support from private donors.Sante Pour Tous (France) & Bringing Hearts Together (Cameroon).Food staples, hygiene products (including sanitary pads for women), and clothing for all ages.Support for children who have now progressed from primary to secondary school under the association’s sponsorship.Representing the beneficiaries, Besong Suzanne expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, noting that for those who have lost everything, being remembered is a form of healing in itself. She offered prayers for the donors, asking that their resources be replenished abundantly. While the “little they could provide” cannot replace the homes lost, the organizers remain committed to their long-term plan of helping these families move from trauma toward self-sufficiency.
