The town of Bandjoun in the west region of Cameroon from February 21st to 28th, 2026 was alive with the vibrant rhythms of the MsemTodjom festival. While the event is a landmark celebration of Grassfields roots and customs, this year’s edition carried a deeper mission: bringing life-saving medical expertise to the doorstep of the community.Through a strategic partnership between the ASSCA-Ave Maria Foundation and the Marie & Michel Medical Centre, the festival grounds were transformed into a hub of healing, proving that a community’s strength lies as much in its health as in its traditions. For many residents of Bandjoun and visiting festival-goers, quality healthcare can often feel out of reach due to distance or cost. Recognizing this, the Foundation took proactive steps to “break the hospital walls.”By deploying a full team of healthcare professionals directly to the festival site, they provided:Free medical consultations for all attendees.

On-site diagnostics and immediate essential care.Preventative health education tailored to the local context. This synergy between the Foundation and the Marie & Michel Medical Centre was not just a logistical success; it was a manifestation of their core vocation: placing humanity at the heart of every action. However,on the sidelines of the festivities, Visionary Report sat down with Mrs. Amélie Fonkoua, President and Promoter of the ASSCA-Ave Maria Foundation, to discuss the philosophy behind this humanitarian deployment which she says,”We realized that to serve effectively, it is not enough to wait for patients in a hospital,” Mrs. Fonkoua explained. “We must go where the people are where they celebrate their identity. Health is the foundation of any living culture.”The impact of this “mobile clinic” approach was immediate. Mrs. Fonkoua noted that the reception exceeded all expectations, with hundreds of consultations recorded.”The population saw this as a mark of respect and proximity,” she continued. “We reached people who otherwise would have been unable to travel for care. We are materializing our slogan conducting social action for health in Cameroon and turning the dream of accessible care into a daily reality.”The MsemTodjom festival is only the beginning. Mrs. Fonkoua highlighted that the Foundation’s mission is a long-term commitment. Plans are already in motion to:Strengthen awareness campaigns in the most remote areas of Cameroon.Enhance the technical plateau of the Marie & Michel Medical Centre to provide state-of-the-art services.Forge new partnerships to link health with education and economic empowerment. In addition, for the organizers of MsemTodjom, the Foundation’s presence added undeniable value, blending cultural pride with public welfare. The success of this operation in Bandjoun reaffirms a powerful truth:culture and health are the twin pillars of community development. As the drums of the festival fade, the impact of the ASSCA-Ave Maria Foundation continues to resonate, proving that when compassion meets culture, the entire community rises.
