
Preparations for the 60th edition of National Youth Day celebration are underway in the Littoral regional capital. The inaugural preparatory meeting took place on January 21 at the Littoral governor’s office, led by Aboubakary Tchiounto, the Secretary General of the Littoral governor’s office. He urged all stakeholders to collaborate effectively to ensure the success of the event, emphasizing that this year’s celebration marks the first under President Paul’s new mandate. Tchiounto encouraged young people to rally together and ensure that the initiatives for youth in this new mandate genuinely benefit them. He also called on youth to reject hate speech and avoid drug consumption, highlighting that the 60th edition of Youth Day is an opportunity to celebrate the bravery and resilience of the youth in Cameroon.

The meeting included a presentation of the report from the 59th edition of Youth Day, and it concluded with the establishment of 13 commissions to oversee the preparations for a successful event on February 11.It was announced that during the celebration, which will be presided over by the Governor, youths from the Central African Republic, Chad, and Congo Brazzaville will participate in the March past.In recognition of this milestone anniversary, Terrestra Nang Jacques, the Delegate of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, stated that a special square of 60 youths will lead the March past. This year, the March past will be organized in all subdivisions and selected chiefdoms, with about seven ceremonial grounds designated in Douala alone.Jacques further emphasized that the celebrations would include a month-long series of activities. Leading up to the event, there will be educational talks, cultural showcases, and sporting activities aimed at engaging not only the youth but the entire population. He noted that in addition to the 13 regional commissions, divisional officers will also establish their own commissions to ensure a successful event in their respective areas.
