CDPM:Board Meeting Highlights Achievements and Future Plans.

Board members of the Maritime Fisheries and Development Funds ( CDPM ) have outlined the accomplishments and future strategies to develop the fisheries sector in Cameroon. This was during the 70th Ordinary session of the board convened to evaluate activities carried out and those planned for the 2026 fiscal year. The board meeting was chaired by the minister of livestock fisheries and animal industries Dr. Taiga who emphasized the fund’s critical involvement in emergency projects aimed at combating food insecurity, notably those supported by the World Bank. He also underscored the importance of numerous initiatives focused on empowering women and youth in the fishing sector.As board members looked ahead to fiscal year 2026, the minister outlined plans to continue infrastructure development, particularly the construction of fish markets. “We will make efforts to assist vulnerable women in enhancing their roles in the fish market, demonstrating our commitment to community support,”Dr Taiga also mentioned training initiative as he cited the reopening of training centres for master fishermen, specifically the Bonamatombe and Debundscha Master Fishermen’s Centres, as a significant step in equipping young people with the skills necessary for success in the industry.

The Executive Director of CDPM Ngoande Salvador provided additional insights, revealing that the board reviewed the work plan for the next three years and scrutinized the budget proposal for 2026 in detail. The board approved a robust training plan aimed at continuing support for the fishing sector.The objectives set for 2026 will focus on capturing fish and developing aquaculture, with a particular emphasis on training for youth and women. The board acknowledged the need for technical support in practical installations, noting that various activities undertaken have led to positive evaluations. The plans also include urgent activities aimed at price reduction, with backing from the World Bank.The resolutions and budget proposals discussed have been finalized and will be submitted to the Ministry of Finance for further consideration.As the Fishing Development Fund continues to evolve, members have reaffirm their commitment to the sustainable growth of the fishing sector and the empowerment of communities that depend on it.It should be recalled that before the board meeting Dr. Taiga laid the foundation stone for the construction of the head office of CDPM,
