The centre, which will train state-registered nurses, nursing assistants, and laboratory technicians, was inaugurated on Monday, November 17.

The Douala General Hospital Medical Training Centre has officially commenced operations. The centre, which opened on November 17, will train nurses, nursing assistants, and laboratory technicians. A total of 107 students have been admitted as the inaugural cohort of trainees. On the opening day, the new students were oriented about the expectations placed upon them and the resources that the hospital will offer. They took time to ask questions for clarification, ensuring that their teaching and learning experiences will be smooth.During the inauguration of the school, the regional delegate of public health for the Littoral region, Dr. Saurel Ngo’o Mebe, urged the students to concentrate on their studies. He stated that the Minister of Public Health is committed to ensuring they receive the best training for optimal outcomes. He encouraged them to put forth their best efforts and graduate with distinction at the end of their program.

Dr. Ngo’o Mebe emphasized the importance of academic excellence within the health education system. He highlighted the crucial role of discipline, active class attendance, and respect among students in fostering a competitive work environment. He called for trainers to maintain rigorous oversight of educational content and to address any issues through appropriate regulatory channels.Dr. Ngo’o Mebe stated that quality healthcare begins with quality training, reinforcing the commitment to delivering high standards of care in the public health sector.According to the director of the training centre, Prof. Danielle Kedy Mangamba, the inaugural ceremony allowed the regional delegate to visit the training school and gain insight into its operations. She explained that, initially, they will train students in three main categories: general nursing aides, state-registered nurses, and laboratory technicians. Prof. Mangamba affirmed their commitment to ensuring that students respect ethics and discipline. She noted that the curriculum for the academic year has been shared and is designed to provide high-quality training. Meanwhile, Madam Martha Njomoh Udobang, a member of the training staff, reported that the classes are ready and that there are sufficient teachers. She added that most of the instructors are staff members from the Douala General Hospital, ensuring quality education. The training will include both theoretical and practical components to produce highly qualified personnel. She revealed that the students for this academic year include 54 state-registered nurses, 30 laboratory technicians, and 23 nursing assistants.
