Patients undergoing haemodialysis at the Douala General Hospital have expressed their joy over the reception of 24 new dialysis generators. The new dialysis generators are coming as an advancement for healthcare in the region, a crucial reinforcement for the nephrology department aimed at improving care for patients suffering from renal insufficiencies. The new generators are expected to greatly enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide essential dialysis services, ensuring that patients receive timely and effective treatment. ”I used to feel a lot of tiredness after my dialysis sessions,” said Michelle, a patient at Douala General Hospital. “But with these new machines, I don’t feel as fatigued. Plus, we no longer have to queue up to wait for our turns. Whenever I come, there’s always a machine available for me. The dialysis generators are a blessing to us. Another Patient disclosed that “I am grateful for the new hemodialysis generators at Douala General Hospital. The difference is remarkable. My treatments are more efficient, and I feel much better afterward. The staff has been attentive, and I no longer have to wait in long queues. This advancement has truly improved my quality of life, and I thank the hospital for their commitment to our health”. Mr. Ngomba Ferdinand Njie, head nurse at the Haemodialysis Unit at Douala General Hospital, stated, “Previously, during dialysis sessions, the machine value was 1.2. However, with the new dialysis generators, the values have increased to 1.8 and sometimes even 2 for some patients which enhances the quality of dialysis treatment. Currently, there are no queues, as there are enough machines to accommodate all the patients.”

He added that the dialysis generators marks a pivotal moment for the facility, enabling it to cater to a growing number of patients in need of renal care. With the increasing prevalence of kidney diseases, the new equipment is seen as a vital step in addressing the urgent healthcare needs of the community. For the Director General of the Douala General Hospital Pr Henry Namme Luma the 24 new dialysis generators is part of a broader strategy to enhance healthcare delivery across the region and beyond. He added that this significant enhancement in medical equipment will enable the hospital to provide timely and effective dialysis treatments, ultimately leading to better health outcomes for patients. As Douala General Hospital continues to expand its capabilities, the recently received new dialysis generators will go a long way in improving the lives of people with renal insufficiencies. With an increased capacity to serve those in need, the hospital is poised to make a meaningful impact on the community, ensuring that patients receive the essential care they require to manage their conditions.
