The excitement of the 2025/2026 school year is in the air, and one local association is making a difference. On Thursday, September 11, the Brother and Sister Association of Cité Sic in Douala V arrived at Government Primary School Cité Sic to donate school supplies to deserving students. The association provided school bags, pens, pencils, and books to 60 pupils who had excelled academically during the previous school year. This symbolic event was brief but meaningful, encouraging the young recipients to continue their pursuit of excellence.During the ceremony, association president Charles Maboa Bebe spoke about the group’s history and mission. Formed in 2005, the organization was created to address growing concerns about security and declining health conditions in the neighborhood.”We, the children of Cité Sic, could not remain indifferent to a situation that was not right,” Maboa Bebe explained. “We always knew Cité Sic as a neighborhood of peace, a place where we could live well.”

The association’s current focus is on giving back to the community, with a strong emphasis on education. They aim to support students and teachers, making sure that local children have the resources they need to succeed.Nevertheless, the donation of the school supplies is just one part of their plan. The association has also rehabilitated parts of the school and hopes to inspire a greater sense of patriotism and pride among the students.”We want to encourage excellence,” Maboa Bebe said, mentioning how impressed he was to see the children not only singing the first verse of the Cameroonian national anthem but the second as well. The 60 kits distributed were awarded to the top three pupils from each class from 1 to 6. This initiative is something the association plans to continue annually. Maboa Bebe hopes their actions will inspire other organizations to join in and contribute to the community’s progress. He concluded with a call for teachers to continue their diligent work in shaping a better future for Cameroon through their pupils. It was a truly memorable day that highlighted the power of a community coming together for a common cause.
