This was the outcome of a week long Anti – corruption campaign that ran from August 4- 8 in Douala

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (CONAC) recently concluded its 7th Anti-Corruption Clinic in Douala, the second to be held in the city. The five-day event, which took place from August 4–8, 2025, aimed to crack down on corruption in the Littoral region.Reverend Dr. Dieudonné Massi Gams, President of CONAC, spoke to the press, stating that the commission “shall not rest until the social ill is eradicated.” The clinics are a key part of CONAC’s strategy, designed to bring the commission closer to the people and encourage the reporting of corrupt activities. They also allow for on-the-ground investigations and the swift referral of cases to the judicial system.

During the clinic, CONAC processed a total of 80 denunciations of these, 61 were existing cases related to the Littoral region, and 19 were new reports received through various channels, including mail, a WhatsApp number, a green number (1517), and in-person submissions. A significant number of these complaints were anonymous, but CONAC noted that this did not hinder their ability to find solutions. After five days of intensive work and on-the-ground investigations, CONAC teams in the Wouri Division confirmed that most of the complaints were well-founded, revealing systemic corruption across various sectors.CONAC’s investigations revealed corruption in numerous sectors of national life. Some of the most frequently denounced areas included: Allegations of extortion from motorcycle taxi drivers and traders, as well as abuse of office by municipal police, Reports of extortion from road users and citizens without National Identity Cards,Extortion during the process of obtaining land titles, fraudulent land sales, and the irregular establishment of land titles,Reports of slow judicial proceedings, bias in judgments, and bribery to visit detainees, Fraud, extortion, and embezzlement of funds from vaccination campaigns. Allegations were also made about schools charging unjustified fees, mismanaging PTA funds, and improperly collecting exam fees.

Furthermore, the clinic led to the arrest of 18 individuals who were caught in the act and handed over to the justice system. The arrests included: TCHENGANG Flaubert, ISSA DIODA, ABOUUTREKA ALIM, and DJIBRINE BOUKAR were arrested for extorting money from motorcycle taxi drivers, Mrs. VIREUTEH Cecilia, a nurse and health center promoter, was arrested for embezzling public funds intended for a vaccination campaign,NGO NIOCK Leonie and MBANDA Chantal Françoise were arrested for demanding bribes to process administrative documents, including land titles, MVEPOH MOUSTAPHA, DANSHI TIOKENG Hermone, ZANGANA Pierrette Carole, MONGOLI John, and ONDOA NNAMA Michel Franky were arrested for extorting money from timber transporters, BABOLACK YE NISSACK Jean Jules and FAMPOU NANA NJIKE Ivan were arrested for complicity in corruption by protecting a colleague who was extorting funds.CONAC also noted with dismay that six of the 17 people brought before the courts were women.Dr. Gams emphasized that CONAC will not wait for another clinic to take action in the Littoral region. The commission remains permanently on the ground and will ensure that legal actions result in fair compensation for victims. He reminded citizens to be precise and detailed when making denunciations to ensure the cases can be thoroughly investigated. The public was also warned that false accusations can lead to legal proceedings. The commission thanked all those who came forward and denounced corruption, even anonymously, and reiterated its commitment to protecting the identity of good-faith informants. To this very end,CONAC is urging all citizens to join the fight against corruption by reporting perpetrators and helping to free Cameroon from this social ill that hinders the country’s development.
