The Governor of the Littoral Region was on site on Monday, May 12, to evaluate the damages caused and sympathize with the victims.

The cause of the fire incident that ravaged about 16 shops and warehouses, costing millions of CFA francs, is yet to be determined as investigations have begun.The Governor of the Littoral Region, Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboa, who visited the site on the morning of Monday, May 12, has ordered investigations to begin to ascertain the real cause of the fire and prevent future situations. The fire that erupted around 8 pm on Sunday, May 11, was successfully put out, although some shops were already consumed.

According to eyewitness accounts, the fire started around the warehouse at 8 pm on Sunday, and the population was mobilized to put out the fire. The firefighting unit was also informed, and they arrived at the scene and joined the population to extinguish the fire, which prevented it from spreading further.One of the victims, Makoussi Nounina, owner of a designer workshop, was informed of the fire but by the time she rushed to the scene, everything in her shop had been burnt. She said this was the third time they were witnessing such an incident and pleaded with the authorities to find a lasting solution to the regular fire outbreaks.Other members of the public have blamed the fire on hazardous electrical connections. While at the site, Governor Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboa inspected the shops and gave some encouraging words to the victims while ordering an immediate investigation.
