The Littoral Regional Military Hospital No. 2 in Douala is currently hosting its fifth annual free health screening event, aimed at improving the health of residents of Douala and surrounding areas. Building on the success of previous editions, this year’s initiative underscores the hospital’s commitment to community health and accessibility.Over the past four years, the programme has provided essential medical services to more than 14,000 Cameroonians. This year’s event, which runs until Thursday 18 April, will cover a wide range of medical and surgical specialities, according to the Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Colonel Pierre David Ebosse Goodman Akwa, who also heads the Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Unit.”This is the fifth year we are offering free consultations to the people of Douala and its environs,” stated Colonel Akwa. “We began with a fitness walk and friendly soccer matches between our hospital and Douala Laquintini Hospital, fostering community engagement. The core of the event is providing comprehensive medical and surgical consultations.”

Reduced costs for imaging tests and surgical procedures during late April and May.”We consistently see around 3,000 patients during these week-long events,” Colonel Akwa noted. “On Monday April 14 morning, we registered over 400 patients during the registration period from 7:00 a.m. to noon. Each patient has the opportunity to consult with up to five specialists throughout the week.”Nevertheless, the initiative serves multiple crucial purposes: It raises awareness of the hospital’s services and its accessibility to the general public. It aligns with the Armed Forces Health Service’s mission to provide preventive and curative care and support national health policies. However, It reinforces the bond between the armed forces and the civilian population, fulfilling the Head of State’s directive for greater cohesion. It provides vital healthcare services to vulnerable populations who may otherwise struggle to access medical treatment. it allows the population to discover the services offered by the hospital. The event will conclude with a health talk featuring experts from the defense and public health ministries, highlighting healthcare achievements in Cameroon over the past decade. This final session aims to further emphasize the importance of accessible healthcare and the ongoing efforts to improve public health within the nation.
