Some Internally Displaced Persons -IDPs in Douala have been drilled on how to maintain peace in their host communities. Owing that some host community members see them as idle and may lead to an increase in crime, the IDPs have been called upon to respect the rules and regulations of their different host communities for the maintenance of peace. This was during a meeting organised by the 2021 Emerging leaders of the Peace and Security Nkafu Policy Institute, Denise and Lenora Foundation in collaboration with Bringing Hearts Together NGO which took place in Bonaberi Douala on Friday May 14. The meeting was also aimed at assessing the needs of the IDPs for future assistance.
The main speaker and coordinator of the Pan African Institute for Development West Africa learning support centre Dr Mbianyor Arrey was available to drilled the population on the importance of maintaining peace within their host communities. He cautioned them to abide to the laws of their host communities. He also took time off to explain the importance of promoting sustainable peace. Dr Mbianyor Arrey also requested the host communities to accept the IDPs as they are victim of a situation not created by them. He called on the host community members to consider them as brothers and sisters and all should work for the promotion of peace and security.

The IDPs expressed their need for a better living condition, they decry that they were in need of comfortable sleeping homes, bed nets, drinkable water, education of their children, health care, gainful activity and a lot more.
According to the supervisor of the emerging leaders 2021, and director of peace and Security Nkafu Policy Institute Denise and Lenora Foundation Francis Tazoucha, the 2021 emerging leaders programme is out to sponsor projects proposed by participants. He disclosed that one of the groups of the 2021 batch choose to work to ameliorate the livings standard of the underprivileged in their communities. He said they came to listen to the IDPs so as to know what to propose for sponsorship.
Meanwhile the leader of the 2021 emerging leaders Keira Hanna Ndoumbe explained that as per their assignment they had to work with underprivileged people in their communities as such they choose to work with IDPs. She added that this was the first phase of the project as the second phase will see them empowering the IDPs to be self-sustaining.
