BHeT Executive Director Handing over covid 19 kits

The ongoing crisis in the North West and South west Region has rendered so many people homeless. Some of these people are now refugees in neighbouring countries while some are Internally Displaced.  A group of these category of people have settled in Bonamoume in Bonaberi  in Douala Littoral region of Cameroon. Bonamoume is a swampy area with no electricity nor portable drinking water. Houses have been constructed inside water and the new inhabitants, IDPs are struggling to make life liveable by filing up some areas.   Live is unbearable in this neighbourhood but they have to survive there as they do not have money to pay rents in normal habitat.

IDPs cry for help

Against this backdrop, a nongovernmental organisation, Bringing Hearts Together abbreviated BHeT recently visited the IDPS to help make them feel comfortable. During the Visit; BHeT offered them food items like rice, salt, dresses and shoes for children men and women, as well as Covid 19 kits such as masks, tablet soap wash hand buckets, and a lot more. During the visit.

IDPs received dresses

The Executive Director of Bringing Hearts Together Madam Regina Etaka Esong has encouraged the IDPs to have hope and move on with live despite the odds.   She said what BHeT has offered might not be enough to cater for their needs but that it can better their lives in one way or the other. The Executive Director used the opportunity to call on the government and other people of good will to come to the aid of the IDPs.

IDPs listening to talk on Covid

It was also a great opportunity for BHeT media liaison officer Eileen Sama to sensitise the IDPs on Covid 19. She requested them to respect barrier measures and keep to hygiene rules.

To one of the beneficiaries Kerin Nkogdem Ngwa the gifts from Bringing Hearts Together will go a long way to ameliorate their living standard. She said before now they haven’t receive any support on Covid 19. She also pleaded for more help. 14 year old Blessing Nji said they need education and food “We can’t go to school because our parents do not have money to pay our fees, at times we go for days without food, our parents ran and abandoned everything so we need help . We don’t have toilets, so often we develop virginal itches due to the poor nature of our toilets”

It should be recalled that BHeT is at the moment sponsoring four Internally Displaced children in Bonamoume.  The NGO has so far identified some 10 desperate cases whereby they are going to train  10 women on some income generating activities and will at provide them with some financial assistance to kick-start a business. BHeT also plans to organised a trauma healing session with the IDPs to relieve their stress
