MPs Inspecting Works

A parliamentary commission led by Honorable Albert Dooh Colins have paid an evaluation visit to some first and second class hospitals in Douala. The members of parliament including Joshua Osih, Pokossy Doumbe Elise, Marinette Ngo Yetna and Albert Dooh Colins rounded up their visit on Wednesday February 24 at the LaQuintinie Hospital in Douala.

 During their visit the members of parliamentarians visited different departments and wards of the hospital. At each stop the director of the LaQuintinie hospital Prof Noel Essomba was readily available to give explanations at each stop over. It was clear that the hospital was under rehabilitation and construction. Prof Noel Essomba was happy that the parliamentarians will carry their plight to the government and improve the infrastructure as well as health personal.

 The Head of the Parliamentary Delegation, Honorable Albert Dooh Elvis explained that their team is one of many teams sent out in the 10 regions of the country to listen, observe and report back to the parliament on the actual situation of the different hospitals. He added that they were out to evaluate the impact of the finances put at the disposal of first and second class hospital within Douala. After visiting the Gyenaeco-Obstetric Pediatric Hospital and the General hospital in Douala, he went on, their last stop was at LaQuintinie where they got firsthand information and also saw for themselves what has been done so far.

 He said they wanted to be sure that the financial package sent to the hospital is been put in place to the benefit of the population of Douala and Cameroon as a whole.

 He sounded off that much work has been done but more is yet to be done as the different hospital visited are still lagging in many aspects.

MPs and Hospital Authorities

 On his part one of the commission members Honorable Joshua Osih explained that   after visiting the first and second class hospitals within Douala, they discovered that there are a lot of things that the government need to do urgently so as to improve on the health situation of Cameroonians. He added that as per reports from the hospitals , LaQuintinie has a constant demand of 20 incubators for premature babies but only 10  are available in the hospital at the moment. He added that electricity outages is also a problem as a result the hospital needs to improve on its generator capacity.

 Honorable Joshua Osih further explained that the General Hospital has just one unit to do radio therapy for cancer patients in the whole of Central Africa and they got information that it will run out of use in the weeks ahead. As a result he went on, measures must be taken urgently so as to remedy the situation.
