The Minister of Secondary Education has ordered for free screening on Campuses.
Following the wave of recent outbreak of corona virus in some schools in Douala, school authorities have been instructed to toughen up discipline and ensure that students respect Covid 19 barrier measures in and around the campus.
This came at a time when over 13 students in three different schools and a teacher in Douala were tested positive of the virus. This preoccupying situation pushed the littoral governor Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua to order for an immediate testing of all classmates and teachers of the infected students while the positive cases were quarantined and responded to treatment.
It should be recalled that the schools concerned were Nal Bilingual Complex in Bangue- Douala V subdivision, Du Vaal college in Makepe still in Douala V plus College Catholique Saint Charles Borromeo in Douala III subdivision. Nal Bilingual Complex registered 9 positive cases including a teacher, Du Vaal registered 4 positive cases while only one student was positive in Saint Charles Borromeo.

With this disturbing development Cameroon’s Minister of Secondary Education Professor Nalova Lyonga has deplored the laxity observed in recent weeks in some schools around the country. On November 17, 2020, the minister issued a release calling on all school authorities to ensure the strict respect of barrier measures. Henceforth, no student will be allowed in classroom or on campus without a face mask while the minister also stressed schools should make good use of hand washing points on campus. She requested school authorities to encourage students to always wash their hands at the various washing points. The release further stated that surprise visit will be organized in various schools to ensure that students are strictly respecting barrier measures.
Thus in a bid to check the spread of Covid 19 on campuses, the Minister of Secondary Education also announced free screening exercise in the days ahead.
