Journalists Committed To be Peace Tools Not War Weapons

 Members of the Cameroon Community Media Network – CCMN have re-echoed their commitment in promoting peace and sustainable development. This was during a meeting organised to take stock of the road covered so far and the way forward. The meeting organised for members of the North West and West chapters of the CCMN revealed that members are on a good footing. The CCMN is the main beneficiary of the Peace Journalism and Conflict Transformation Project of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon-PCC in partnership with Bread for the World.

 According to the Peace Journalism and Conflict Transformation Project Manager, Roseline Akah Obah, there can be no meaningful peace without sustainable development. She was impressed by the work covered so far and encouraged Peace Journalists-PJ to work harder in peace building so as to ensure that peace return to Cameroon. In her words “the different programmes on peace has impacted the lives of many in the society and is gradually changing the mentality of people. She said   due to the positive results recorded this far the project will be extended to six other regions of Cameroon including the North West, South West, Littoral, West, Centre and Far North Regions. Roseline Akah Obah reiterated there is a greater need for peace in our communities.              

PJs pen down their commitment

While evaluating the project, Project Assistant, PJ. Gilbert Ndasi disclosed that the project is at 80% realisation rate. He sounded off that the project is well on course and it will be completed in about five months from now. He was pleased with the work covered so far.

Some of the journalists in attendance shared their views, PJ. Pedmia Tita revealed that the project has had a great impact on her editorial policy as it has change  her diction. She said as a result of the project she has become more committed in peace building and preaching peace whenever the opportunity comes.

 For PJ Ambe McMillan through the project, he has been able to coin the right words to use in his reporting. He added that through his reporting he is contribution his voice to ensure that peace return to the troubled North West and South West Regions.
